JOJCAST: TubeMogul

What is it?TubeMogul
TubeMogul is a video statistics and distribution tool. It gives you the capability to upload a video once and then launch that video to a number of different video sharing website, saving you both time and bandwidth.

What sites does TubeMogul support?
At the time of writing TubeMogul supports many sites including:

  • Blip.TV
  • Crackle
  • Daily Motion
  • Howcast
  • Metacafe
  • MySpace
  • Revver
  • Veoh
  • Yahoo Video
  • YouTube
  • Viddler
  • Vimeo

But John, I only upload videos to YouTube… Are there any benefits for me?
While the major functionality of TubeMogul is its distribution capabilities, there are other perhaps less obvious benefits for video creators who use one site exclusively.

  • Daily Statistics By Email: Its great to see at a glance which videos are getting the most attention on a given day. You’d be surprised what older videos might take on a life of their own over time. And receiving the statistics by email means you don’t have to log in to YouTube Insight.
  • Sidestep Problems With The YouTube Uploader: In the time I’ve been using YouTube there have been a number of variations on the YouTube uploader and they’ve all had one thing in one common. Some people have problems with them some of the time. By using the TubeMogul uploader (which I’ve found more reliable than YouTube’s) you can overcome most of these issues.
  • AskCarrieLee, host of the popular YouTube show ‘Talkin’ Tube,’ recently had some issues uploading an episode of her show. When it did eventually appear on YouTube the audio and video were out of sync. She couldn’t understand this since she also uploaded the same video to other websites and it worked perfectly. I recommended she try using TubeMogul – which she did, and it worked fine after that.

  • Easy Future Expansion: If you decide after conquering YouTube you want to expand to other video sharing websites and your videos are already uploaded to TubeMogul, sharing them with other sites is just a matter of including your login details for the new site and hitting the “launch” button.
  • TubeMogul Identifies Trends: Because much of TubeMogul’s functionality revolves around statistical information, the TubeMogul blog identifies interesting trends which might have implications for your video creation. (Did you know for example that the Polish are the most dedicated video watchers in the world?)
  • Track Competitors and Friends: TubeMogul lets you track statistical information about other channels, not merely your own! You can track five producers in addition to whatever you upload from within TubeMogul. Find out how your friends and competitors are faring in the scheme of things.

How much does TubeMogul cost?
The basic ‘personal’ package is free and allows for 100 video deployments per month. I feel this is more than adequate for most users, however TubeMogul does also offer other packages for users requiring some of the more advanced features.

Where can I learn more about TubeMogul?
The best place to learn more about TubeMogul is at the TubeMogul Learning Center. Here there are a series of videos explaining how to use TubeMogul features. (Unsurprisingly these videos have been shared with most video sharing websites that TubeMogul supports, so if you prefer you can just look up ‘TubeMogul’ on your favourite video site too.)
