Tip: Widescreen HD Videos in YouTube

by JohnOfJordan on December 13, 2008

Since the introduction of Widescreen High Definition YouTube video capabilities, JohnOfJordan has been inundated with requests for information about the appropriate settings to produce videos at. Unfortunately all he could do was shrug his shoulders and suggest people experiment.

Fortunately that master of greenscreen and video expert, Mark Apsolon has come to our collective rescue!

Mark actually identifies three different formats for resolution.

Standard Quality
WS = 320 x 180 FALSE
WS = 320 x 176 TRUE

High Quality
WS = 640 x 360 FALSE TV
WS = 640 x 352 TRUE

YouTube “HD”
WS = 1280 x 720

He recommends creating templates for the High Quality and “HD” settings in your video rendering software, and suggests that “HD” is not really true High Definition but rather a really high end standard definition flash player. Mark also recommends the use of the AVC MPEG4 codec.
